The Kidney Self-Assessment Program (KSAP) is a continuing medical education and medical knowledge MOC product that reviews the essentials of nephrology for fellows preparing for initial certification, practicing nephrologists preparing for recertification, and practitioners looking to renew and refresh their clinical knowledge, diagnostic, and therapeutic skills.

This enduring material provides challenging, clinically oriented questions based on case vignettes. Each question includes a detailed response that outlines both the approach to the clinical scenario at hand and the best answer. References are provided from either recent well-done reviews from major and easily accessible journals or the classic original reference. Topics are patterned after the ABIM Nephrology Examination Blueprint, and the program helps clinicians assess strengths and weaknesses in the broad domain of nephrology.

Learning Objectives
After completing this learning activity, participants should be able to:
  • Apply physiologic principles in the diagnosis and management of fluid and electrolyte disorders.

  • Describe common complications of acute and chronic kidney disease in both outpatient and hospital settings.
  • Illustrate appropriate therapy known to delay progression and limit long-term consequences of chronic kidney disease.
  • Categorize treatment modalities and complications of end-stage kidney disease, including peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, and renal transplant.
