This session focuses on the role of social determinants of health in educating people on dialysis about the risk of infection with central venous catheters. A roundtable with an interdisciplinary team including a nephrologist, dialysis nurse, technician, and social worker convened and discussed communication strategies to reduce infection risk for people with central venous catheters taking social determinants of health into account.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, the participant will be able to:

• Define social determinants of health (SDoH) and identify the SDoH categories outlined by Healthy People 2030.
• Illustrate ways that SDoH impact the chances that a person receiving dialysis will develop a bloodstream infection.
• Analyze the role of SDoH in educating people on dialysis about the risk of infection.
• Describe how dialysis professionals can mitigate the risks caused by health disparities.
