About

The Board Review Course & Update (BRCU) focuses on key information needed to prepare for the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Nephrology Board Certification and Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Examinations. ASN structures and schedules this course to maximize participants’ readiness for these examinations. This course also provides a comprehensive and indispensable update for practicing nephrologists.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Interpret the fundamental concepts of nephrology in the areas of kidney function and structure; fluid and electrolyte disorders; glomerular and vascular disorders; potassium and acid base; tubulointerstitial disorders and nephrolithiasis; CKD, ESRD, and dialysis; hypertension; AKI, ICU nephrology, and pharmacology; bone and mineral metabolism; and transplantation;
  • Formulate diagnostic and therapeutic options for the management of kidney diseases; and
  • Test individual medical practice competence against a series of simulated patient/case scenarios.

Target Audience

  • Senior Nephrologists: Practicing nephrologists in all key areas of the specialty. The course also benefits pediatric nephrologists, intensivists, and hospitalists.
  • Board Examination Participants: Individuals are thoroughly prepared for upcoming Certification and MOC exams.
  • Nephrology Fellows: Fellows seeking a detailed outline and discussion of what their current fellowship program should include.

ABIM MOC Statement
Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 62.00 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to Joint Accreditation for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

MOC Requirements

To obtain American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Points, physicians must meet the following criteria: 

  • Be certified by ABIM in internal medicine and/or nephrology and enrolled in the ABIM MOC program.
  • Enroll for MOC via the ABIM website (www.abim.org).

CME/MOC Termination Date: December 31, 2024

*After this date, the MOC Post Test will not be available.

Method of Participation

  • Complete the evaluation.
  • Claim CME.
  • Complete the MOC Post Test.
  • Each participant is allowed two attempts to pass the examination (minimum of 70% correct).
  • Go to the claim MOC tab.
  • If prompted, follow instructions to populate your date of birth (DOB) and ABIM ID on your ASN profile.
  • Select the ABIM MOC Points link.
  • Select Submit credits to PARS.
